Julie Collins

Founding Partner · Commercialization Consultant

Julie Collins is a commercialization consultant specializing in technology innovation and market validation. She works with early-stage technology companies, university founders, and research teams across biotech, pharma, medical devices, clean energy, and other deep tech sectors to translate complex technical innovations into viable commercial strategies.

As Lead Faculty for National NSF I-Corps, Julie has led over 25 cohorts since 2012, working with more than 3,000 technology teams and bringing structured customer discovery methodologies to entrepreneurs at critical inflection points. She is also a designer of the nation's premier innovation training program for pre-seed and seed stage funded startups — serving as curriculum designer, video content creator, and lead instructor.

Her client work spans developing market entry strategies for SBIR Phase I and Family Office portfolio companies, creating customer discovery programming for universities and entrepreneurial service organizations, and building commercialization roadmaps for university technology transfer departments. Prior to her consulting practice, Julie directed SBIR GA — Georgia's state SBIR assistance program — helping hundreds of companies secure federal funding. She also served as a Startup Catalyst at Georgia Tech VentureLab, evaluating invention disclosures and designing curriculum for innovation programs.

Julie brings over 20 years of experience helping technical founders navigate the gap between laboratory innovation and market reality. She holds an M.S. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Emory University and a B.S. in Applied Biology/Microbiology from Georgia Institute of Technology.

With over two decades of experience, Alexis has honed expertise in opportunity identification, concept development, new product introduction, and market adaptation. Currently she is a business owner providing strategic coaching and development insights aimed at skill building. She also serves as an instructor for NSF I-Corps™ and DOE Phase Shift™, mentoring startups and small businesses in entrepreneurship and market validation.

During her tenure at W.L. Gore and Associates Inc., Alexis played a pivotal role in business growth and innovation, leading commercial expansion efforts that resulted in a 400% year-over-year increase for a Dutch subsidiary. She has successfully validated and commercialized multimillion-dollar business opportunities, applied lean innovation methodologies, and risk assessed and consulted on an innovation portfolio valued at over $800M.

Her combined academic knowledge and real-world experience make her an exceptional advisor for organizations navigating the challenging path from scientific discovery to commercial success.
